“Educational action is shaped through designing of didactics, of environments, of participation, of the professional growth of personnel, and not by means of applying pre-defined programmes”. – Reggio Emilia
Our educational packages are child centred. We carefully match each child and young person with a support worker who will best meet their needs and enable that child or young person to reach extraordinary potentials. We not only have two outstanding learning environments at ‘The Hive’ in Buckfastleigh and ‘The Cove’ nestled in the historic quarter of the Barbican, Plymouth. We also have access to most wonderful beaches, national parks, woodlands, villages and towns that Devon and Cornwall have to offer.
Documentation is an integral part of the educational offer at SWIS and informs our practices and gives them structure. We write detailed reports after each session so we can reflect on the learning and inform our next steps in how we can plan, extend knowledge. Documentation also allows us to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of our young people with the key stakeholders and protagonists in their lives. The reports also underpin the evidence required for AQA awards.
We can offer each child or young person an opportunity to work with us on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis depending on their needs. A unique and bespoke learning package will be planned for each session so that all our children and young people attending SWIS will engage in innovative learning.
Enrichment for all
Just because our young people are not currently in a mainstream provision that doesn’t mean we want them to miss out on the enrichment that they typically would encounter at school. Over the year we plan to enrich their sessions further through several different experiences these may include – sound communities sound bus, surfing, rock climbing, guest speakers, online training, community volunteering, acting, film making, cookery, woodwork and much more.
